What is a Molecule?

Definition of a Molecule:

A molecule is formed when two or more atoms chemically bond together. It is the smallest unit of a compound or element that retains its chemical properties.

Types of Molecules:

A. Molecules of Elements

  • These contain atoms of the same element bonded together.

  • Examples:

    • Oxygen (O₂)

    • Nitrogen (N₂)

    • Chlorine (Cl₂)

B. Molecules of Compounds

  • These contain atoms of different elements bonded together.

  • Examples:

    • Water (H₂O)

    • Carbon Dioxide (CO₂)

    • Ammonia (NH₃)
