Chemical Equations

Chemical Equations

1. Word Equation:

A word equation represents the names of the reactants and products.

Example:
Magnesium + Oxygen → Magnesium Oxide

2. Balanced Chemical Equation:

A balanced chemical equation follows the Law of Conservation of Mass, meaning the number of atoms of each element is the same on both sides of the equation.

Example:

2Mg + O2 → 2MgO2

This shows that 2 atoms of magnesium react with 1 molecule of oxygen to form 2 units of magnesium oxide.
